Amelia is a natural paradise with 13 miles of pristine beaches, bordered by natural beauty. It has a rich culture and history and is famousfor its local cuisines. Outdoor activities available here include hiking, biking, strolling, swimming, etc.

Things to Visit in Amelia Island

Amelia Island abounds with many attractions. Some of them have natural importance; some have historical and cultural importance; and some have global importance. Those that will give you a true picture of this vacation destination include the following:

  • Goffinsville Park: As a family-oriented recreational place, this park has something for visitors of all ages. The features available here include picnic areas, restrooms, play areas, play apparatus, pavilions, shelters, parking and boat ramp facility. It is famous for night fishing. Sea creatures—eels, sharks, crabs and all kinds of fish—are baited here. The fishing pier is more than 150 feet long with eight feet of water flowing under it at low tide. Trout fishing is the best activity here when the water is clean and high.
  • Seaside Park: Quite similar to the above-mentioned park, this is also an ideal place to hang out with family or friends. It is well-maintained and has free parking, pavilions, benches, bistros and restaurants. During peak times it gets crowded.  It also has a miniature golf course. If you are fond of playing golf, it is an ideal place for you to hone your skills. Although it is not prohibited to visit it after 10 pm, you should avoid visitingit after this time as homeless people come here to enjoy their nap on benches of this park.
  • Pirate Playground: Located in Fernandina Beach, this is a kid-friendly place. It is a huge playground set, in a shaded and breezy area. Apart from relaxing, you can enjoy picnicking and strolling. In addition, you can stay in this park for long hours to create imaginative thoughts under its natural ambience. You can also indulge in some physical exercises along with your kids and become playful with them.
  • Amelia Island Museum of History: Located on Fernandina Beach, this is one of the most interesting museums in Amelia Island. It contains exhibits that focus on the history of Nassau County. Situated inside the old Nassau county jail, it is a major attraction to tourists. On November 18, 2009, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It remains open for public from 10:00 AM to 4: 00 PM. So, you can visit it anytime between these two times.  No entry fee is charged from visitors.
  • Bosque Bello Cemetery: Located one mile north of Atlantic Avenue within the city of Fernandina Beach, this is the oldest identifiable grave of French Soldier Peter Bouissou de Nicar that dates back to 1813. The interesting thing is that both old and new sections of Bosque Bello Cemetery lie together on the one site. The New section was added by the City of Fernandina on the land donated by Sadie Cooper and J.G. Cooper in 1945. Both graves are located among the Live Oak trees, so they are rechristened as Bosque Bello, which means beautiful woods in the Spanish language.
