Description
The Dutch Barn is located about 2 miles East of Middleburg on a quiet country lane off State RT 50 and in the heart of Virginia's hunt country. The previous owner developed and used it as a small horse breeding operation and there are now 6 indoor stalls (of which 4 are available to guests, including an indoor wash station), a run-in shed, paddock, exercise ring and riding area. It is an excellent place to bring your horse(s) as there is plenty of opportunity to ride on the property, the scenic rural road and beyond.
The family owned farm house is connected to the stables, covers about 3,000 square feet of living space including 3 bedrooms, a great room including living, dining and kitchen, TV room, exercise room, and a reading room. All are tastefully decorated with a worldwide collection of antiques, arts and crafts. There are 2 full bathrooms, one having an indoor Jaccuzzi bathtub as well as a half bath in the reading room. All rooms are comfortably outfitted with plenty of closet space. There are quality linens and towels and everything is neat and clean. A large deck with a 6 person's spa (open from spring into fall) overlooks the Bull Run Mountains. At the bottom of the property is a farm pond with a swing bench. There is lots of open space to feel relaxed and it is all quiet and restful. There also is plenty of parking space, including for horse trailers.
The town of Middleburg is very charming to explore. The town itself has some renowned restaurants including Red Fox Inn, The French Hound and Julien's, the world class Salamander Resort and Spa, several boutiques, antique stores and a Safeway supermarket. Also the National Sporting Library is here and worth a visit. Within a mile distance you will find a Polo field and a high end horse riding facility and historic Aldie Mill and Oatlands are nearby. Many trips can be made to explore the hilly rustic country side with lots of beautiful properties where horses are kept. Other attractions are the many wineries, the State Arboretum of Virginia, the Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Luray Caverns.
Washington D.C. is about 45 miles away and Dulles International Airport about 20 miles or less than half an hour drive. Part of the Smithonian Air and Space Museum (Udvar-Hazy Center) showing the larger planes and space vehicles (including space shuttle Discovery), is located near the airport.
