Marco was excellent in communicating with us right from the beginning. He met us at the airport, took us to the market and made sure that we were settled in and comfortable.
This was our 2nd stay in Antigua and a home rental with Marco is the way to go. Based on other reviews we rented a car, and this worked out great to see much of the island. (Galley Bay is a beautiful beach - one of the best on the island and is a 5 minute walk from the cottages). Marco met us at the airport, took us grocery shopping, and helped me with my delayed baggage; he was happy to be the local point of contact. He goes above and beyond to make sure his guests are well taken care of. We highly recommend staying at any of the Galley Bay Cottages!!!
For me, I think the view really sells this place. Really stunning! The house is designed generally open plan, situated off the beaten track with most modern conveniences catered for, making for a really relaxing stay. A 4x4 or higher rised car a bit of a must for access to the house (a rough 50m stretch) but also very handy for the Antiguan roads generally. Don\'t underestimate the houses proximity to supermarkets and access to cash (can be 30min drive) so try to plan ahead. Marco, host, couldn\'t be more helpful with any questions or queries answered within minutes! Really great to be met at the airport too, great touch.
Great views and location. Villa is superb; we enjoyed the private outside area very much. I hope to return to Aloe villa in the near future. Marco was helpful and quick to respond to our requests.
Just as other reviewers have stated, the views of the house are incredible. It never gets old sitting by the pool, breathing in the fresh air, feeling the wonderful, refreshing breeze, seeing the beautiful blue of the ocean and the green of the surrounding hills. Everyday morning and afternoon was spent there – coffee on the terrace, and dinner on the front deck. That alone made the trip worth it. Inside the house is equally nice. It has an old-world style feel with the blue kitchen tiles, huge windows, décor, art work, and furnishings. It was very spacious, airy, and comfortable. The upstairs bedroom does indeed have an outstanding view right from the bed. The room fills with light in the morning, so if you’re light-sensitive, bring your sleep eye mask : ) The kitchen was stocked with everything you’d need: four-burner stove, oven, two refrigerators/freezers, dish-washer, dishware, utensils, etc. The big, breezy, sunny window over the sink made washing dishes a pleasure. Marco, the host, was extremely responsive. I swear he must have his phone in-hand at all times. Every email and text I sent had a quick reply. He met us at the airport, and drove us to get groceries before taking us to the house. It all went very smoothly. I also agree with other house guests, that having a four-wheel drive is extremely beneficial for not only the driveway to the house, but also to get to some of the most beautiful beaches that are only accessible via dirt roads. Speaking of beaches, both Gallow Bay (walk-able from the house, waves like the US East Coast), and Hawksbill (5 minute drive, calm, gentle waters), are beautiful, but our favorite was Deep Bay, only a 6 to 8 minute drive away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Five Island House and would absolutely recommend to anyone: couples, families, adventures, and those wanting to get away from it all.
