We had a phenomenal time at Red Sunset. The house is huge, amazing, and you have it all to yourself, including an indoor pool and hot tub. I personally loved the intricately carved doors and other finishes. The only thing better than the house was the hospitality of Patrick and his family. The man can cook! Breakfast was always a treat to look forward to and if you have any dietary requirements like my son (gluten) and my wife (grain), I doubt you’ll find a more accommodating place than Patrick’s kitchen. I highly recommend that you have him prepare a dinner for you while you there. Patrick can also tell you all the ins and outs of the local attractions and let you know about some of the lesser known options in the area (we rappelled down waterfalls!). Great house. Great hospitality. Great trip.
Fantastic start to our Costa Rica adventure and as it turned out, our favorite part of the trip. Just walk down the drive for the best hikes around...head towards Lake Cote or the Eco Lodge. Patrick\'s advice was spot on with our dining at the Gingerbread and Tanajas (on the shore of Lake Arenal at sunset!) restaurants being spectacular food and second only to his own cooking for us at the villa. He and his wife, Elisa, go above and beyond to make you comfortable and enjoy the most of your time in the area! Wonderful stay and couldn\'t be better.
This house was just so fantastic. Patrick was super helpful and made it extremely easy to plan activities once we got there. I am a crazy planner when it comes to vacations but it was so nice I didn\'t have to worry about booking our activities beforehand. When we got to the house, Patrick set us up with a horseback ride for the same day. It was unreal - we had the best time ever with those horses, and the family that owned them was beyond nice. They also have great food. For dinner we went to Tinajas - we actually went there two or three times because we thought it was delicious and it was pretty close by. The second day we did the hanging bridges (which was cool, but I probably wouldn\'t do it again) and zip lining which was so so fun. My boyfriend & I had done zip lining a bunch of times and only went because my parents wanted to go, and WOW it was the most insane zip line I\'ve ever been to - I\'m scared to heights and it was high up there... so glad I did it though, even though the first zip line almost caused me a heart attack, ha! The third day we did ATV\'ing which was awesome and I\'d highly recommend it. I had never driven one before but it was a blast! We then went to get great casados in town (place was recommended by Patrick). Onto the house..... It was very breathtaking. The pictures don\'t do it justice, the views were incredible. It was only 4 of us but the house was HUGE. You could definitely fit a lot of people here and be very comfortable. Each bedroom had a bathroom with a shower. There is a separate pool house with a hot tub and a bunch of different games (ping pong, poker, etc), which was so cool. Everything was super clean! I can\'t leave this review without mentioning the daily breakfasts that Patrick\'s wife makes. HOLY. It was delicious, and something different everyday. I dream about that breakfast, seriously so good.
Exemplary in every way, the personal and most pleasant owner and staff want you to feel so at home. It is a place to run around like crazy and just veg. Our large party with complicated schedules, all managed to enjoy and the advantage is the flexibility. A place to regenerate!!!!!
We stayed here between Christmas and New Year\'s in 2006. We had two families: 4 adults, 6 older children (high school and college). The listing is very true to what you find when you get there. The owner is next door to the property, and he is as helpful as the best concierge in the finest hotel anywhere. You are within 5 minutes to 1.5 hours of almost any activity you can think of. The only negative thing to say is that we took so many digital photos that 8 months later we are still editing and organizing them!!
