We stayed here two nights while on a birdwatching trip to Panama. Altos de Maria is a mountain-top gated community but also an excellent birdwatching area a couple hours West from Panama city. Villa Bowes worked out perfectly for us. We bought groceries at a supermarket on the way from Panama, but there is also a well-stocked convenience store just a mile down the hill. The kitchen is well equipped, and there were useful staples from previous guests (salt/pepper, salad oil, etc) The house is on a ridge as you enter the area, with great views in both directions. The owners were helpful with directions, etc. Would definitely recommend to friends and fellow birdwatchers.
Espectaculares amaneceres y atardeceres. Deliciosos aromas de flores, aire limpio. Paz, mucha paz !! Felicidades a los propietarios de este maravilloso espacio en Altos del María.
We stayed a full week at Villa Bowes lovely little cottage with a beautiful view. This was our second stay, we came back because it is such a great spot for rest and relaxation! It is well-equipped, just need to bring groceries. there is a great little restaurant a short walk up the hill and a grocery store 1 km away. Great hiking trails nearby. The owners are very friendly and accommodating.
We only stayed two nights but loved every minute. The cottage is beautifully designed to make best use of a small space but with all the comforts! Jeannette was full of information, helped us organize a hike and even lent us tennis rackets so that we could enjoy the court down the road. We brought our groceries from Coronado and enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen. We hope we have a chance to come back!
Villa Bowes is really cute. It\'s a minimalist house with great views front and rear. If you want to get away from it all and really get your stress level down it is PERFECT for that. You will be day trip distance from a couple of neat places, and far enough away from civilization to really relax and unwind. You simply will not find a better bargain anywhere. The pictures do not really do it justice. It is 2 hours or so outside of the airport in Panama City. The directions you will get from your hosts are pretty good, but I strongly suggest you arrive in the daylight hours. I would also suggest renting a SUV as our little rented Yaris scraped the front end every time we went up and down the driveway. It\'s pretty steep. Driving in Panama is different. If you pass your exit you will need to drive for a ways to find a crossover or returno. This freaked us out a little at first but we grew to love it as there are not any traffic signals and intersections. Don\'t stress over a missed turn, you will come to a spot where you can turn back around. Traffic flows well because of the way they do it and it works. You can get some essentials in Sora at either of the 2 little markets there, but for an American style grocery store you will need to either stop on your way to Villa Bowes at La Chorrera at the grocery store in the mall, or just past that at Rey\'s. You will also find modern grocery stores and some restaurants in Coranado. \"Just east from Bejuco on the main road.\" The vast majority of locals do not speak English but were really patient and friendly in trying to communicate with us. We thought we had things figured out with a phone app translator, but the app did not work where there was no wifi or 3 or 4g so we simply bought a Spanish/English dictionary and did our best. It in no way diminished our joy. We had an amazing time and can\'t suggest visiting Villa Bowes strongly enough.
We spent three nights at the mountaintop cottage and it was exactly what we needed after our wedding and to escape our busy careers. I wish there were more properties like this one. It was simple but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Jeanette was most helpful with pre-arrival instructions. She also organized a hike for us the first full day of our stay and provided great guidance for other to-dos and a quick way to El Valle. I didn\'t appreciate how awesome the weather was at this cottage until I spent a few more days down closer to the canal. The mountain breeze and cooler evenings (50-60 degrees, not THAT cool) were a welcoming escape from the city and jungle heat.
Well maintained cute cottage overlooking two valleys to enjoy sun-up and sunset. Enjoyed our hosts and exploring adjacent areas. Perfect get-away w no neighbors or noisy distractions. Will definetely stay again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Bowes. The cottage was neat and clean and nicely appointed. There were sufficient dishes and other kitchenware to make our own breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The location is somewhat remote, but the views of the Pacific Ocean (from the front) and mountain valleys (from the back) were spectacular. Close to many great hiking trails with lots of interesting birds and beautiful butterflies. We suggest stopping at one of the larger grocery stores on your way as what is available in the little local stores is limited.
