To the west the coastal footpath changes to a range of sand dunes part of 'Y Foryd' nature reserve, a tidal estuary, home to numerous birds, which leads to Fort Belan, built in the 18th Century, during the Napoleonic Wars. The village is overlooked to the south by the Iron-age hill fortification from which the village gets its name, part of the Lleyn Peninsula coastal walk and a great view point!
