Estrella de Mar is a quiet complex on the Mar Menor known as the ‘Little Sea’. Mar Menor is an immense lagoon of warm, shallow water separated from the Mediterranean by the La Manga Strip in South East Spain where the water temperature is usually four to five degrees warmer than the Mediterranean sea proper. It is an area of low rainfall and prolonged sunshine boasting of warm sun all year round.
Nearby attraction include Cartagena which is an old roman and pre-roman city and is the administrative capital for the area while Murcia City is the regional capital. This strip looks different every day sometimes seeming to loom out of the sea, sometimes looking very distant and fairytale like. There is also the La Manga strip which separates the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean Sea and is a site to behold with sky rise hotels stretching almost its twenty-six kilometers length until reverting to its original marsh and salt flats to the north.
Activities on offer within the area are watersports such as windsurfing and sailing available at many points on Mar Menor, diving at Cabo de Palos, golf at La Manga club nearby, walking which is easy reach of the Calblanque Parque Nacional with stunning views down to the Mediterranean or back over to the Mar Menor as well as the beautiful four kilometer beach close by at Los Alcazares with food and drink which has to be sampled at the Chiringuito Beach bars or for that special treat perhaps eat at Restaurante La Encarnacion which is a stunning period hotel and restaurant.
Other interesting sites to visit are the salt pans and a protected bird sanctuary at the North of Murcia Airport, local beaches at walking distance on the Mar Menor and sea beaches on the Mediterranean a few miles distant.
There is also a Sunday market at Cabo de Palos which is a must for many guests for a fantastic shopping holiday followed by a meal at one of the many restaurants in the very attractive fishing port or with a stroll along the cliffs to El Faro which is a lighthouse.
