An Caladh is a supremely comfortable and spacious home for up to 6 people in one of Scotland’s most dramatic and beautiful areas. A detached 4 bedroom house in the small village of Kylesku in the North Western Highlands with stunning views over sea lochs and mountains. The house stands in an elevated position 50 yards from the water’s edge of Loch Glencoul.
We hope that your experience here will prove to be one of a haven of peace and tranquillity, an opportunity for stillness, with time to reflect and dream.
An Caladh was completely rebuilt in 2005/6 and as David and Sarah Bowen use it as a 2nd home, it has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard. To encourage the sense of peace it has no TV, but Bedroom 4 is used as an entertainment room with comfortable sofa and a vast selection of videos and DVDs. There are 2 hi fi systems with 100 CDs, and the sun lounge has a selection of exercise equipment for those who like to add to the good effect of the stunning walks, glorious sandy beaches, fishing, boating, bird-watching and all the other Highland activities which are available in the area.
The house has full oil-fired central heating and there is a traditional wood and coal burning stove in the living room.
You enter the house from the large parking area at the back of the house into a small hall which leads into the:
Sun lounge: The sun lounge is perfect for a quiet morning cup of tea overlooking the loch and enjoying the sunrise. There is a wide selection of books and, for the more energetic, exercise equipment.
Utility room: A separate Utility room has washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer, a 2nd fridge, boiler, boot rack, coat hooks and extra storage space.
Kitchen: The kitchen is open plan with the dining room and is fully equipped with gas cooker, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and high quality equipment. The Tourist Board inspector stated that every utensil was available that he could think of – we use it as a 2nd home so everything is there!
Dining Room: The old pine dining furniture fits in with the stunning rustic view from the huge window. All the lights are on dimmers so you can adjust ceiling spots and wall lamps from bright enough to do paperwork to that romantic dinner you might want after a day of bracing Highland air. There are numerous board and card games in the sideboard for those relaxed evenings.
Living Room: The living room is 27ft by 14 ft so has a real sense of space. Comfortable large sofas and armchair surround the log burning stove and thick lined curtains and dimmed lighting again create a lovely evening room.
During the day the 2 large windows and sliding doors mean that you have the view of loch and mountains all the time and we often find ourselves just sitting and staring as the light changes from minute to minute on the loch and mountains.
A CD system with a good selection of music and more books cater for varied tastes.
The door from the living room leads into a small hall off which there are 3 further rooms.
Bedroom 3: A downstairs bedroom has twin beds, bedside cabinets, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
Shower Room: A large curved door shower, with 100% tiled floor and walls, radiator and under floor heating.
Entertainment Room: A comfortable 3 person sofa with a TV, DVD and video player and a selection of nearly 300 videos and DVDs are a great way to relax in the evening or to give the children something to do if you want a lie-in. Lots of kids’ movies!
Bedroom 1: The stairs at the end of the living room lead up to a walk-in storage cupboard at the top of the stairs and 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king size bed where you wake up to a view of the loch and mountains. Sliding doors take you onto a balcony where the morning cuppa is the perfect start to the day.
En-suite bathroom: A large bathroom with large bath and shower, under floor heating and high quality fittings.
Bedroom 2: Across the landing is a very spacious twin room with the same views at the front of the house. Wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 bedside tables.
There is room for at least 4 cars behind the house and the garage is available to store bikes or other items during your stay
Front garden: The front garden is terraced – with many mature shrubs and plants it is a blaze of colour at different times of the year, while maintaining a link to the rugged nature of the countryside around. The large decking off the living room gives the ideal view over the garden and loch and mountains beyond.
