This cozy two level cabin opened for guests in 1989. On the first floor you'll find a kitchenette stocked with all you will need for a full breakfast. There is a small television, queen size sleeper sofa, glider rockers and braided rugs on pine floors. A collection of videos are available along with satelite TV and radio. The wood buring fireplace is stocked and ready to light. There is also electric heat and air conditioning. Rocking chairs are found on the front porch and balcony. The 2nd floor loft has a queen bed and a single bed. There is one small bathroom, with a small shower, it is stocked with a hair dryer and hand made soaps. Picnic table and charcoal grill avaiable for guest use. A list of area restaurants and sightseeing along with brochures also available. Children welcome but no pets please. The cabin is located on the grounds of Falls Mill. The mill opened in 1873 as a cotton and woolen factory and now produces stone ground cornmeal, flour and grits. We still use a 32 foot overshot waterwheel to power the milling equipment. Picnic tables below the mill offer a view of the wheel and lower waterfall. The museum traces the history of the mill and the gift shop sells the freshly milled products as well as cookbooks, prints of the mill and assorted jams and relishes.
The cabin is open for guests year round except as follows: No Wednesday night arrivals as the mill and grounds are closed on Wednesday, also no reservations are taken from Christmas Eve until the first Thursday in January as the mill is closed during this time. Weekend nights fill up quickly so plan 2-6 months in advance for a Friday or Saturday night stay. Owners John and Jane Lovett live in a log house by the dam and upper falls. Jane, a former travel consultant with a degree in Anthroplogy works full time at the mill. John, a retired Industrial Engineering professor, consults on mill restoration projects throughout the southeast and also works at the mill.
