Sierra City lies along the North Yuba River at about 4,500 ft in the shadow of the 9,000 ft Sierra Buttes. This town of 250 people was a bustling gold mining town of 5,000 in the 1850's and many of the remnants of those days remain. It's proximity to the Lakes Basin (45 alpine lakes within 15 miles) and Yuba Pass (7,250 ft) make it a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts wanting to get away from the development and crowds of Tahoe. Fishing, hiking, swimming and mountain biking are all very popular in the summer as well as cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the winter. Our house is located on a quiet street in the woods walking distance to the town, the Pacific Crest Trail and the river. There is room enough for 10 people and it's central location and higher elevation make it a popular rental year round.
