Tucked away in the corner of a quiet cobbled courtyard stands Cove Cottage vacation rental. The perfect holiday hideaway only minutes from the Blue Flag beach in Allonby on the edge of the Lake District.
The cottage vacation rental was converted from 250 year old farm buildings in the 1960's, providing spacious and well equipped accommodation. The cottage has been sympathetically decorated throughout, in the style of a traditional Victorian cottage.
The spacious lounge has a gas fire within a feature fireplace, colour TV, video and CD/cassette player. In the dining room there is a beautiful old pine table and chairs. A lovely country kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob, microwave and washer/dryer. There is also a fridge and separate freezer.
On the stair landing is a cosy seating area, where one can quietly read. There are three bedrooms on the first floor. The Master Bedroom, with a Victorian Antique Iron, Four Poster Bed. The Rose Room with a Victorian Antique Iron double bed. And the Blue Room with two Victorian Antique Iron single beds. Plus further two beds. All with beautiful period bedding. The bathroom has a power shower over bath, hand basin and toilet.
To the side of the cottage is a small private walled yard with garden furniture.
All fuel and power included in the price. Bed linen and towels provided free of charge. Cot (linen not provided) and high chair included.
Double glazed and centrally heated throughout. With smoke alarms fitted for your safety, and all the modern conveniences you would expect.
Amongst the cobbled squares and by-ways are two pubs, both serving excellent food. The Ship Inn is where Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins stayed. There is also a restaurant and a cafe where all the food is home-made. Two antique and bric-a-brac shops where you can browse. A Post Office and Newsagent. Plus a shop where the owners make their own mouth-watering icecream.
At the rear of the village is a Leisure Centre, with swimming pool, sauna, solarium, pool tables and a lounge bar serving food, and providing evening entertainment.
For the energetic, there are hill or flat walks in the immediate area including the Cumbrian Way which follows the seashore, the Smugglers Route and the Allerdale Ramble. There is a free Children's adventure playground, Golf Course, Cycling, Windsurfing and Kite Boarding, fishing from the beach or Maryport Harbour, Horse riding including beach rides on well mannered horses.
Tourist information is provided in both Bridge House and Cove Cottage, detailing attractions in the surrounding area. The Lake District is easily accessible, with the mountains and lakes of Ennerdale, Buttermere, Keswick and Bassenthwaite all within a 30 minute drive. Close by is the historic town of Cockermouth with Wordsworth House the birthplace of William Wordsworth, quality shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. A short drive up the coast is the Victorian seaside town of Silloth. With Hadrians Wall and the Scottish borders all within a short drive. However you choose to spend your holiday, the Western Lake District has everything to suit all ages and tastes, with a wealth of things to do and see all year round.
