Our stay at Gull Cottage was absolutely wonderful! We stayed in the private boathouse just steps from the main house and beautiful Gull and Higgins ponds. The views from the porch were spectacular and the large private accommodations were comfy and immaculate. Our hosts, Pat and Randy were very warm, interesting people and couldn\'t be more helpful. We started our day with an amazing breakfast of delicious food, presented beautifully. This is not your ordinary B&B and Pat and Randy are not your typical inn keepers. Gull Cottage is a true gem worth visiting over and over.
Returning from an \"Indian Summer\" trip to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, we spent three nights at the Gull Cottage B&B in Wellfleet. What a relief after the Boston traffic jams and the busy route number 6. A short drive from this route, you arrive at a secluded place close to paradise. An original Cape Cod house where the hosts Pat and Randy live and where the guests have breakfast. The house and the adjacent building where the large and cozy guest room is are at a pond where I enjoyed swimming every morning. From the house you can make several walks and it is possible to reach the seashore in about twenty minutes. An incredibly peaceful place to relax. Pat and Randy are wonderful hosts and we enjoyed intense conversations at breakfast. They are Cape Cod experts and know everything about the region. Provincetown is just a short drive away, however, if you are looking for parties and lots of restaurants and bars, you are probably better off spending your nights directly there. Gull Cottage stands for peace and silence. Just relax! We will be back.
We absolutely loved staying at Gull Cottage this past Labor Day - Randy and Pat are wonderful hosts, and provided us with everything we needed. The Boathouse is charming and authentically Capey, and provided comfort and privacy. The breakfasts were superb, and the views marvelous. We got to know Randy and Pat, and really enjoyed their company. We enthusiastically recommend Gull Cottage if you are planning a visit to the Cape.
We felt like we entered an artist’s retreat and wildlife haven reserved for royalty. Our Boathouse hideaway, straddling two ponds, was spacious and comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious and wholesome. Pat and Randy, sparkling conversationalists, welcomed us and made us feel special. Henry David Thoreau would have been delighted.
Sleep in the 21st century eat in the 18th. You sleepin a modern, spacious, comfortable apartment and then have a gourmet breakfast in a pre1800 Cape Cod home. Private beach with near wilderness surrounding you. Cavalcades of birds come to the feeders. Your hosts, a retired history prof. and wife will fill you with more info on Cape Cod than you\'ll ever need.
I absolutely loved my stay at Gull Cottage! The boathouse is a small open studio with a living room, kitchen, bedroom area, and bathroom. It is very private and peaceful. The grounds surrounding the cottage are beautiful and include a view of the water. The best part of the stay was the amazing meals prepared by Pat and Randy each morning! The table was beautifully set, the host and hostess were extremely attentive, and the food was superb. Gull Cottage is a throwback to the old Cape Cod with all its beauty, charm, and genuine New England hospitality!.
Gull Cottage is a lovely B &B tucked away from the usual tourist chaos of much of the cape. We stayed in the boathouse, a clean and beautifully appointed studio apartment which included a w kitchen, bedroom area, pull out sofa, bathroom and a private deck with a view of the lake. The grounds are beautiful, filled with flowers and birdfeeders. Pat and Randy couldn\'t have been better hosts, giving us the \"locals\" scoop on things to do and ways to avoid the summer traffic. Best of all were Pat\'s amazing breakfasts, each one different from the day before and presented beautifully! We loved out stay at Gull Cottage and hope to return next year.
My husband and I spent the most wonderful weekend at Gull Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it: the charming cottage, the relaxing atmosphere, the beautiful scenery and not the least: the amazing breakfasts in the lovely company of Pat and Randy. The whole stay was total bliss. For anyone in need of a relaxing few days in paradise: look no further, this is the place to go!.
I don\'t want to review Gull Cottage because I selfishly want to keep it secret, but the owners, Pat and Randy, are so delightful that I felt I should. My husband and I for many years have visited the National Seashore in Wellfleet each summer, either renting a house, or staying at other B & B establishments or hotels outside of the National Seashore boundary. We never found anything as perfect as Gull Cottage. It is uniquely situated between two fresh water ponds, both visible from the property. There is a small private beach on one pond. As birders and gardeners, we appreciated the orioles, hummingbirds and other avian visitors who constantly visited the many feeders and flowers surrounding the lovely breakfast sunroom. The home has been in Pat\'s family since the late 1800\'s, and each morning she and Randy set the table with different treasured tableware, always perfectly coordinated with the tablecloths and flowers. The effect was casual, not stiff and formal; it was a treat to be able to use these family heirlooms. The best part of our stay was sitting down to breakfast each day with Pat and Randy, eating delicious food and talking about everything under the sun for much longer than we should have, given that the beach waited. The second best part of our stay was finding hundreds of books in our quarters above the boathouse, old favorites and those we have always wanted to read. It would be heavenly to go back in autumn, when the Cape is so beautiful and quiet, enjoy the days outside, and curl up by the warm stove in the boathouse living room with a good book, or even better, with one of the many naval history articles written by Randy.
We loved the privacy of the property. Being able to swim in the pond every day from a private beech was amazing. The Cottage was more than comfortable and relaxing. It had everything we needed. Best of all, our hosts were the most hospitable and friendly people we have met on the Cape... and we have been coming to the Cape a long time!!! The lovely gardens, hummingbirds, raspberries and blackberries (we promise we saved enough for Pat to make pies) were just icing on the cake! Pat made special gluten free breakfasts for me every morning which were amazing! Pat and Randy\'s attention to detail made our visit exquisite. We will be back (all the way from CA).
This is truly a special place. The sort that you want to keep to yourself. It was everything that\'s advertised and more. Pat and Randy are delightful hosts & know so much about the area. They treated us like family. We had one of the best stays in Wellfleet we\'ve ever had. We hope to return next year!.
This is the third time I\'ve been to Gull Cottage, and the magic of this place never wanes. Pat and Randy are wonderful hosts, the setting is tranquil and beautiful, the breakfasts are hands down the best breakfasts I\'ve ever had at any B&B. You have access to a beautiful pond for swimming, and an entire converted boathouse that is private and incredibly comfortable and lovely.
We have visited Wellfleet for years but never knew about this beautiful place located right at the passageway between Gull Pond and Higgins until found on TripAdvisor . The natural beauty of the place is stunning. We had kayaks delivered by Jack\'s rentals and kayaked early each morning and evening in complete solitude, accompanied only by Great Blue herons and osprey. Swimming in these fresh water ponds that feel like silk is always heavenly. We hiked the dirt roads between the many ponds and were close to Newcomb Hollow for ocean swimming. Boathouse is charming and has everything you need for and short or longer stay. Pat and Randy are the kindest and most helpful people and breakfast is unlike any other B&B we have stayed - a spectacular mutli-course homemade breakfast beautifully served. What a gem!
My wife and I have stayed here since it opened as a B&B and can\'t say enough great things about Pat and Randy. They are the perfect hosts. The location is very private and the fantastic breakfasts are what make coming here so enjoyable. Beautiful views from the breakfast table, great kayaking and swimming just add to the experience. Plus, it is in Wellfleet..probably our favorite town on the Cape.
You\'re the only guests of Pat and Randy, staying in a large boathouse\" with a mini kitchen, deck, skylight and stocked with kitchen items and about 1000 books! The bed was extremely comfortable. Small private beach on Gull Pond, which is very beautiful. I would recommend renting a kayak to explore the three connected ponds or a Sunfish, all available nearby. The breakfasts were superb, the only problem being that we gained a lot of weight from eating them, but they were worth the calories! All together a perfect vacation for couples, and kind of a pleasure not having wifi. The only caution is that the roads leading there are very sandy and narrow. Be careful driving and use a four wheel drive if at all possible.
"Nature retreat it is, but Gull Cottage is much more. Pat and Randy have created a welcoming haven for visitors of every sort—fox, humming birds, screech owls, migrating Tennessee warbler, humans—all of us are happy to return. This is our third year. The property is unique. Where else can you find, not one, but two shimmering crystal kettle ponds outside your door? The boathouse apartment overlooking the ponds is compact and perfect. It has a kitchen, library, desk, and a comfortable queen sized bed, cotton L.L.Bean blankets, bookcases brimming with books of every description, a deep sofa, and French doors leading to a deck of your own. Breakfast with Pat and Randy on the porch of their 18th century Cape house recalls the art of dining. Is it vanilla and an extra egg that makes the French toast so lofty and flavorful? Yes, I would love a slice of golden frittata. Is that fresh basil on top? More coffee? Orange juice? Yogurt? Fruit? How about a piece of warm sweet cinnamon cake? Conversation with your hosts is equally delicious. The only hard part about this vacation place ---is leaving\"
This was my 3rd stay at Gull Cottage and it was as wonderful as the last ones! Pat and Randy are kind and generous hosts who are always happy to recommend local attractions or restaurants. Pat makes the most delicious, filling breakfasts, beautifully presented on their screened porch. I love walking to the beach or wandering the back sandy roads while I\'m there. The ponds are beautiful to walk around and to look at from the Boathouse which is like a studio apartment. It is equipped with everything needed-- it has a dinette kitchen with microwave. There\'s a comfy couch surrounded by books and local magazines and a queen sized bed, a beautiful antique four-poster. Plenty of space! I go for the gentle quiet of the place--no internet, no phone, no TV on the property but there\'s easy access in town. It\'s a restful place, unlike any other I\'ve ever been to. I will keep going back!!
The little boat house on the ponds... Quiet but close to everything. Gracious hospitality and wonderful conversations with our hosts, Randy and Pat. Superb meals. Clean and large well kept studio room. We even cooked lobster on our own. Incredible getaway! Not ocean front but pond beach is a stone\'s throw away (on the property) and is gorgeous with clean water. Refreshing.\"
"Very relaxing, off the beaten track, surrounded by ponds and nature. Totally quiet. Cottage is tastefully decorated, clean, and comfortable on 2nd floor with a couch, chairs, table, small kitchenette, minifrig. Small deck but cannot really see the nearby pond. Excellent breakfast served by friendly and helpful hosts at their house next door to the cottage. It\'s down a narrow sandy road just barely ok for regular car, no internet, but we did not mind. Welfleet is a beautiful area for walking, beautiful ocean and bay beaches, hiking, and kayaking. We kayaked on the interconnected ponds just outside the cottage, very beautiful, especially in the morning and late afternoon. Great restaurants nearby as well. HIghly recommend Gull Cottage - very special place.\"
We were thrilled when we were able to secure a stay in mid-August at Gull Cottage. Randy and Pat are fantastic hosts. They can\'t do enough for you during your stay. Breakfast is always delicious. Ask to try the baked eggs with veggies; it was great. The studio apartment above the boat house is perfectly appointed and so comfortable. I felt like I was in a tree house with a view of Gull Pond from our window. This was our 3rd stay in 4 years. Need I say more?
I have just finished my 4th visit to Gull Cottage B&B. It was as wonderfully relaxing and fun as the first time. The Boathouse is like a studio apartment equipped with a kitchenette and table, livingroom area and queen sized bed with bathroom. The space is roomy and cozy, on the confluence of 2 freshwater kettle ponds. It\'s a mile and 1/2 from the ocean where you can walk and swim, away from the crowds. You\'re never far from civilization; it just feels like it! I went to a book festival in Provincetown and to the theater this time. Both were great experiences. I felt so refreshed when I left and I\'m looking forward to when I can return next year!!!\"
If you\'ve ever wondered what it would be like to be among the fortunate few families to have summered on Cape Cod for generations, here\'s your chance to find out, and in the most interesting and charming fashion. Pat and Randy Bartlett are former professors (she of biology, he of history) who have a classic Cape Cod home, down a winding dirt road, in the woods overlooking two pristine ponds. Next to their house they\'ve created a lovely, traditional apartment in the loft of their boathouse. That\'s it. Woodland setting, classic home and boathouse apartment: that\'s the entire, quite private b+b. We were lucky enough to have booked a three night stay midweek, mid-June (just before the start of the seasonal onslaught.) We easily visited beaches on both the bay and ocean sides of the Cape; had some great meals, using the Bartlett\'s suggestions; strolled through art galleries in Wellfleet and Orleans; walked the Cape bike path for a few miles; and enjoyed reading, overlooking the ponds, on some beautiful, breezy days. However, the jewels in our stay were the breakfasts Pat prepared, and that we shared with her and Randy, on the porch facing the pond. Pat\'s cooking is both delicious and artful. But it was her and Randy\'s willingness to talk about their lives on and off the Cape, their many interests and activities, their family stories and stories about the Cape, that made our visit with them unique. We came as strangers, but we felt we left as friends.\"
I have previously reviewed this B & B, so I will try to say something a little different about why it is so perfect, at least for me and my husband. There are a number of \"inholdings\" in the Wellfleet portion of the Cape Cod National Seashore - homes that pre-date creation of the park in the 1960\'s and are allowed to remain within the preserve. There are dozens available for rent during the summer, and my family has stayed in one or another for many years. The most unique and wonderful by far is Gull Cottage. It is situated on two of the pristine kettle ponds, at the end of a dirt road. The guest accommodations are located on the second floor of a charmingly refurbished boathouse that is private and equipped with everything one might want or need. We love walking and running on the network of dirt roads that cross the wooded areas of the national seashore. A stunning, isolated ocean beach is a 20 minute walk away. As we shared it with one other family last week, we watched a pod of humpback whales spouting and feeding a short distance from shore. There are always seals, and the dunes are spectacular. Best of all are Randy and Pat; truly special and delightful hosts. The breakfasts they serve will satisfy the most exacting of gourmands. They are delicious, spectacularly presented, and different from the usual B & B fare. If you want to stay at Gull Cottage during the summer, book early, because it is much in demand. However, I can\'t imagine anything nicer than staying there in September or October.\"
Gull Cottage is such a lovely retreat. The host and hostess are warm, friendly generous people who love sharing the history of their home with guests. The breakfasts are lovely to look at and even more delightful to eat and enjoy. The cottage is a cozy just-right-for-2 room which has a very comfortable bed and more books than some small libraries. The cross breeze makes sleeping and waking so pleasant. Not to be overlooked is the access to not 1 but to 2 beautiful kettle ponds, Gull and Higgins. Sunrise is a great time for an early swim to start the day. My week here was just perfect!\"
"For one or two adults seeking a wonderful, quintessential Cape Cod vacation getaway, Gull Cottage B & B, located on an historic spot right off the sluice between Gull and Higgins Ponds, is the ideal place to be. Hosted by the gracious Pat and Randi Bartlett, you will find yourself in short walking distance to the two ponds, as scenic a spot as anywhere in the Cape. The studio is ample in size, tasteful, and comfortable-- and comes with a breathtaking view of Gull Pond itself. Pat, whose cooking deserves to be published as well as eaten, makes breakfasts from scratch that are memorable, and Randi, a writer and author, is a thoughtful guide to the area. Their home and their hospitality provided us with one of our most memorable vacations in over twenty years traveling to the Cape.\"
"My wife and I have stayed here for the past ten years during the summer. The location is very private with great views of the freshwater ponds. The food is fabulous! Pat and Randy are the perfect hosts and are very accommodating to your needs. The Boat house (where you stay) is a separate building on the property and surrounded by woods. Also, you are a quick drive away to the bay or ocean beaches. There are also many restaurants in the area for great dinners or lunches. Great for couples. Simply a fantastic place to stay on the cape.\"
"We were looking for a warm and cozy remote accommodation in Wellfleet. Gull Cottage B&B was exactly what we wanted with a few extra attractions. With two natural glacially formed lakes as part of an in holding of the Cape Cod National Seashore the natural sense of place was excellent. The sounds of many birds celebrate first light in a delightful manner. Pat and Randy are excellent hosts providing a delicious breakfast and great stories. There were a couple of extra attractions worth mentioning. As is common throughout New England in wet wooded areas there are lots of ticks and mosquitoes. When visiting Gull Cottage one ought to come prepared with long sleeves and long pants. The dirt road in to the Cottage is one way and a little quirky. We had no trouble navigating it but did have to engage other vehicles on the road. My suggestion is arrive the first time during daylight hours. The Cottage is well located to engage local restaurants and the Wellfleet village center. One can swim in the lakes. Boating is also an option.\"
We spent a lovely August weekend at Gull Cottage B and B. The property is gorgeous and secluded with access to two ponds for swimming and canoeing. The guest quarters are located in a separate and private boathouse a short walk from the main house. We were there on a very warm weekend but felt comfortable with the fans and screens. We also enjoyed a rainy evening reading in the well-lit and book-lined studio. The studio space is perfect for a couple. Pat and Randy are attentive and enthusiastic hosts. Breakfasts are delicious and served with incredible attention to detail. We enjoyed their warm company as we looked out over the ponds and watched the birds of summer. We swam daily and the ponds are exquisite. We were also able to walk to other ponds and explore the surrounding conservation land. The main house is historically notable and be sure to ask Pat and Randy about it. We had a wonderful weekend. It is so rare to be able to enjoy Wellfleet from a spot of such exquisite peace and beauty. We felt very well cared for by Pat and Randy and would love to return again.
We loved this special spot, off the beaten path and situated on 2 kettle ponds. Breakfast on the screen porch was yummy; and it was so relaxing to chat with Pat and Sandy while watching the birds and the lake. We enjoyed kayaking, swimming, and walking at the national seashore, a short drive away. And, with Pat\'s guidance, we enjoyed great dinners nearby. At night we relaxed in the boathouse (no TV, no internet!) , enjoying the peace and quiet! Hope to return sometime!\"
We had a lovely three day weekend at Gull Cottage in mid August. The apartment was clean, very cozily and comfortably furnished, and just right for two (or one!). From the gourmet breakfasts Pat made and served on their lovely screened in porch, to paddling the canoe and swimming in the clean and oh-so-not crowded pond their property abuts, to listening to the great horned owl sing us to sleep - it was all beautiful, peaceful, serene and fun! We are so looking forward to our return. Thank you for your generosity and hospitality.\"
"Every now and then you discover a pace so fine, you almost hope the word doesn\'t get around. Gull Pond B&B is one of rare finds. My wife and I visited for five days this August, and in more than 15 years vacationing on the outer cape each summer, it was one of the best stays we\'ve had. If you are drawn to the peace and serenity of Wellfleet\'s woods and kettle ponds, you will not find a better location to experience these unique environs, nor two more gracious hosts than Randy and Pat. The accommodation is a charming studio apartment on the converted second story of the property\'s boat house. The apartment is entirely up-to-date, not at all cramped, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Delicious breakfasts and good conversation with Pat and Randy on the screened-in porch of their 18th c. traditional cape house overlooking Gull & Higgins ponds are a high point. Bird lovers will also enjoy watching countless orioles, gold finches, nut hatches, humming birds and other birds from the porch. Gull Pond pond is accessible via a private beach, and there are canoes and a Sun Fish available for use. Randy will get you situated with these, and even give you a paddling lesson if you need. The road into the property is a .5 mile typical Wellfleet woods dirt road. The B&B\'s brochure will advise that an all-wheel drive vehicle might be preferred but is not mandatory. This is spot on. We head to the Ocean beaches by day, and dine out at night, and driving 2010 Honda Civic in and out was never a hassle. Gull Pond B&B is perfect for nature lovers looking for a secluded retreat while also enjoying easy access to all the Outer Cape\'s attractions.\"
If you\'re looking for a true getaway that combines gorgeous Cape Cod views, genuine comfort, gracious hosts, Gull Cottage is for you! it certainly was for us--our repeat visit from a year ago was as delightful as the first. Owners and hosts Pat & Randy Barlettl live on an extraordinary spot ON Gull Pond, a rare kettle pond in Wellfleet. Besides the views and the bracing, exhilarating swim, the studio apartment is comfy, Pat\'s gourmet breakfast is as aesthetically lovely as it is tasty, and they both provide interesting breakfast conversation with you if you want it, quiet if you do not. It\'s an ideal spot for two adults seeking respite from the hurly-burly of modern life and a chance to truly unwind, reconnect, and enjoy to truly special Cape Cod experience.\"
